SaiCoir is a premier growing medium and is an excellent alternative to peat moss. Coirs the long fi ber and the sponge-like pith particles that make up the thick husk of the coconut fruit. In India and Sri Lanka the long fi ber is extracted from the husk and made into various products, leaving pure coir pith. This coir pith is carefully processed into SaiCoir Growing Medium and is 100% natural and renewable.

Production Process

Raw materials for SaiCoir Growing Medium require special selection and processing by skilled production technicians. First, fresh coir pith is allowed to mature for up to 3 years; this natural exposure to constant monsoon rains reduces salt, phenol and tannin. Matured coir is then processed to remove fi ne particles and long fibers. Next, it is washed to reduce salinity to optimal levels and sun-dried on concrete. This coir is compressed into compact units for easy handling and shipping. Before shipping, all SaiCoir growing medium products are tested for expansion, EC and pH .

Applications

Applications

SaiCoir Growing Medium is used in a variety of applications as a superior growing medium for potted plants, seed starting, cuttings, bulbs, bedding plants and cut flower production. It is also a very popular choice for orchid and cactus growing. In addition to its horticultural uses, SaiCoir is an excellent bedding material for reptiles, amphibians and other farm animals.

Grades

SaiCoir – Regular
Contains coir pith particles and short fiber with 20% air porosity and 60% water holding capacity. Regular SaiCoir is an excellent all purpose potting medium and soil amendment.
SaiCoir – Coarse
Coarse SaiCoir has higher short fi ber content in order to reduce water holding capacity (up to 50%) and to increase aeration (up to 35%) where these physical properties are needed.
SaiCoir – Fine
Containing little or no fiber, Fine SaiCoir has increased water holding capacity (up to 70%) and less air porosity (as low as 13%). Fine SaiCoir is an excellent growing medium for seedstarting, cuttings and golf green construction.
SaiCoir – Calcium (Ca2+) Enriched
Regular SaiCoir is very rich in Potassium but low in Ca2+; plants, such as Lilies, require Ca2+ in their starter mix. We offer this Calium Enriched SaiCoir with optimal levels of Ca2+ in the coir substrate to meet specifi c needs of growers.
